Who doesn't love a good sandwich or a great cause?
Come to the Farmers Market on Mulberry St on August 25th, from 9am-Noon, for Pulled Pork Sandwiches from Don Chafin's Smokey Pig, with an optional Cuban twist.
Here's the great cause: over a hundred years ago, Quakers from the Wilmington area worked together to build a school in Puerto Padre, Cuba. Cuban Quakers have recently gotten control of the building back from communist government there, and they're working to rebuild the ruins - known as the Wilmington School (Colegio Wlimington) - to use as a community center, as space for Sunday School classes, and for training new ministers. Wilmington Friends Meeting's Peace and Social Concerns Committee is sponsoring this fundraiser as part of an effort among Quakers throughout our area to help with the ongoing construction efforts. Come get your sandwich, learn some local history, and support a great mission project!
